Your Town Audit

The STP Add-On to your Understanding Scottish Places (USP) report is a twelve day study which builds upon the USP output to give you a much wider appreciation and understanding of your towns role, function and performance.

The audit, prepared by socio-economic development professionals from EKOS and STP, has been developed to complement the national data available about your town through the Understanding Scottish Places data platform. It covers 7 KPI themes as follows and looks to gather 250 relevant indicators to build an excellent baseline for your town.

1. Locality Data
2. Accessibility
3. Local Services
4. Activity/Events
5. Development Capacity
6. Tourism and Visitor Profile
7. Place/Quality Impression

If you would like to know more, take a look at the three new case studies from Alloa, Kilmarnock and Ayr or contact us to discuss how it might benefit your town.

Proactive Planning Pilot How To Guides

Proactive Planning is one of the six key themes of the Town Centre Action Plan, set out by Scottish Government in 2014. It seeks simple, encouraging and pro-active planning policy to support vibrant town centres. The Scottish Government committed in the Action Plan, that they would “identify pilots with interested planning authorities who wish to consider collaboration and test approaches which could help simplify planning processes in town centres.”

The first set of Town Centre Planning Pilot Case Studies and How To Guides were launched at the Annual Scotland's Towns Conference and are now available on the Towns Portal including examples from Renfrew, Hamilton, Govan, Elgin and Fife.

Collaborative Working

A key driver for sustainable towns is the strength of partnership working amongst all stakeholders of a place.  This week we attended Love From Indie Street's Christmas Market in partnership with Business Gateway and City of Edinburgh Council where digital connectivity, collaborative working and support of small, local businesses was key.

We spoke to Lindsey Sibbald, City of Edinburgh Council and Rebecca Christensen, Love From Indie Street about digital connectivity in towns and partnership working to achieve holistic engagement of all stakeholders in a community, whilst moving into a new digital era.

Funding Support

STP’s Funding Finder is the go-to place to source potential funding, hosted on STP's Funding Support pages. Comprising nine categories, the Funding Finder provides easy to read information on current funding streams, highlighting where new funds have been announced and where application deadlines are looming.

STP Members can also use our Funding Support Service, a half day dedicated to finding the right fund for your project. Our team can help you identify the type and source of fund that can kick start or sustain your project.
