After 13 years at the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council, Lesley retired as Assistant Director, Learning, Governance & Sustainability in December 2013. Her earlier career included teaching English in Italy, working as a Research Officer for National Union of Students (Scotland), Education Officer for the Scottish Vocational Education Council, and Education & Equalities Officer for Transport & General Workers’ Union (Scotland). In the past, she served on the boards of Scotvec and Langside College, as a lay tribunal member, and on various steering groups and committees. Lesley played a leading role in the establishment of the European Women’s Lobby as a founding Board member, representing the UK for six years, including two years as its Treasurer.
Lesley joined the board of the Centre in 2002, having earlier contributed to some of its activities on education and employment. Following Ken Munro’s retirement, she also served as its convenor for several years. She is a long-standing member of the board of Engender and is deeply committed to promoting equality and diversity. Lesley was elected as a General Council Assessor to the Court of the University of Glasgow in July 2014.
